We take food safety extremely seriously. On Friday 3 March, Foodstuffs South Island’s Hornby Distribution Centre received a delivery from a supplier of recalled hummus products which are subject to a food safety recall. Some of the products subject to the recall were sent on to Foodstuffs South Island stores in error on Saturday 4 March. 

As soon as we became aware of the error on Saturday 4 March, the Foodstuffs South Island stores who received the recalled product in error were contacted by our teams and product was removed from the store’s shelves, marked and put aside to be destroyed.

When the electronic sales data became available today, Foodstuffs South Island carried out a check of all transactions of the recalled product over the weekend.  The update is as follows: 

• A total of 39 tubs of the recalled product were sold in error to 34 customers.  
• Of the 34 customers who we know purchased the product, Foodstuffs South Island has identified and made contact with 25.
• There are currently 9 customers who we know purchased the recalled products that we have been unable to reach.

If you were one of the 9 customers who purchased the following products at these South Island stores, please do not consume and return it to the store for a refund as it is subject to a recall:

A full investigation as to why the recalled product was delivered to Foodstuffs South Island and dispatched to the stores is already underway.
