The finishing touches are being applied to PAK’nSAVE Papanui. The store will be opening soon at 171 Main North Road, Christchurch.

Foodstuffs South Island is excited to be bringing a brand new standalone PAK’nSAVE store to the community of Papanui in time for Easter 2024.

PAK’nSAVE Papanui is set to open its doors at 9am on Tuesday 19 March.

It’s the latest store to be opened by the co-op in the Canterbury region since the opening of PAK’nSAVE Rangiora in September 2015.

The store will replace PAK’nSAVE Northlands, located just over 2km away in Northlands Mall, which will be closing just ahead of the opening of the new store.

Construction of the new store, which is right next door to Foodstuffs South Island’s Support Centre, began in April 2022 and has now been completed, and the internal fitout is well under way.

Foodstuffs South Island General Manager Retail & Property, Tim Donaldson, says: “This investment reflects Foodstuffs South Island’s ongoing commitment to customer service, customer experience, community growth, and embracing sustainable practices in every aspect of its operations.

There will be one day without trading following the closure of PAK’nSAVE Northlands and the opening of PAK’nSAVE Papanui, to ensure a smooth transition to the new store location. This extraordinary achievement has been made possible through months of careful planning, so our customers and community have as little disruption to their shopping as possible.

The new site aims to provide a better shopping experience for customers, with more carparks and convenient access to the store, which has been achieved in collaboration between Foodstuffs South Island, Christchurch City Council, the Community Board, Waka Kotahi and the adjacent Marian College.

The store will provide 100 additional new roles for the community, on top of the 210 positions that have already been filled by team members wholl be brought over from PAK’nSAVE Northlands.

The store is equipped to continuously trade for three days in the event of an emergency or natural disaster and includes water storage and a generator to ensure customers can continue to get the food and essentials they need.

We’ve put a big focus on investing in what our customers have been telling us they want more of – quality fresh products, wider aisles and more carparks, easy access to and from the site, and a customer experience that is second to none,” Donaldson says.
